Baby Shower Cookies recipe

Ingredients

Makes 2 dozen

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
1 cup sugar
1 large egg, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons brandy, or milk
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Royal Icing for Sugar Cookies

Directions

1. Whisk together flour, salt, and baking powder in a medium bowl. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream butter and sugar; add dry ingredients, and mix until incorporated. With mixer running, add egg, brandy (or milk), and vanilla; mix until incorporated.
2. Transfer dough to a work surface. Shape into 2 discs, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheets with nonstick baking mats or parchment paper; set aside.
4. On a lightly floured work surface, roll out dough to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes, and transfer to prepared baking sheets, leaving an inch in between. Leftover dough can be rolled and cut once more. Bake until lightly golden, about 10 minutes; do not allow to brown. Transfer to wire racks to cool.
5. Decorate with Royal Icing

Royal Icing for Sugar Cookies

Makes 2 1/3 cups

* 1 box confectioners' sugar (1 pound)
* 5 tablespoons meringue powder, or 2 large egg whites

Directions

* In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, combine sugar and meringue powder. Mixing on low speed, add a scant 1/2 cup water. For a thinner consistency, usually used for flooding, add more water. A thicker consistency is generally used for outlining and adding details. Mix until icing holds a ribbonlike trail on the surface of the mixture for 5 seconds when you raise the paddle.

A woman's diet around the time of conception may influence the gender of her baby, research suggests.

The study suggests a high-calorie diet at this time - and regular breakfasts - might increase the odds of a boy.

The researchers say the modern trend to opt for low calorie diets might explain why the proportion of boys is falling in developed countries.

The study, by the Universities of Exeter and Oxford, appears in the Royal Society journal Biological Sciences.

The study focused on 740 first-time pregnant mothers in the UK, who were asked to provide records of their eating habits before and during the early stages of pregnancy.

The researchers found 56% of women with the highest energy intake around the time of conception had boys, compared to just 45% among women with the lowest energy intake.

The average calorie intake for women who had sons was 2,413 a day, compared to 2,283 calories a day for women who had girls.

Women who had sons were also more likely to have eaten a higher quantity and wider range of nutrients, including potassium, calcium and vitamins C, E and B12.

They were also more likely to have eaten breakfast cereals.

Over the last 40 years there has been a small but consistent decline, of about one per 1,000 births annually, in the proportion of boys being born in industrialised countries, including the UK.

Dr Allan Pacey, an expert in fertility at the University of Sheffield, said there was good evidence that nature had subtle ways of changing the sex ratio of a population in response to a variety of circumstances.

However, he said: "I would urge women to not to start starving themselves in order to try influence the sex of their baby.

"It has been observed in some animal studies that even small changes in female diet can affect the life long health of the offspring, so it is important that the mother has appropriate nutrition at the time of conception and throughout her pregnancy."

Anne Geddes inspiration for this piece was a quote (from the famous Spanish cellist Pablo Casals). It must have been around 1997, as at the time she was shooting for her second coffee table book "Until Now" and she was so moved by the words she immediately decided to feature them in the beginning of my book. For her these words so completely encapsulate her feelings about babies, and their absolute sense of promise for the future, if only they are nurtured and unconditionally loved from the very beginning. For many years afterwards, Anne Geddes had thought that it would be amazing to combine some of her imagery with the quote itself, and over the past six months she has finally been able to do so. The music contained in this piece is original, and was composed especially for this project.

Wood sticks (you can color them)

Instructions
Roll the towel
Hold whit the pin to make it strong and well-rounded

The clotheline in my opinion is the easiest for decoration. It can be used both for girls and for boys and is combined with various colors. You can use pastel colours such as green, yellow, purple and orange.
This theme like Baby Blocks theme is also ideal for twins or triplets in addition to being used when not know the sex of the baby.

The photos will give you an idea of what can be done using clothesline theme , in addition to the Printable kit you already know.

What I really like about clotheline theme, is that baby cloth can be part of decoration and gifts for the baby.
You can make each guest hang (Put a string yarn from one corner of the room to another)baby cloth for decoration. Or make them bring another cloth in addition to the gift. This will depend on the budget and of course the guests.
Another option is to ask the parents to cooperate with the baby cloth they have already purchased for the baby.

You can give onesies cookies as favors o game prizes, wrapped in a cellophane bag with a tag.

We moved back to Mexico! As you know, we were living in Mexico a little less than five years when we decided to return to Argentina, our country of origin. Sueños Encantados was borned while we were there.
Over the months me and my husband have the idea of moving back to Mexico, so after a year and a half of been living and enjoying with friends and family in Argentina, we are back in Mexican territory.

What's a Baby Shower?

The Baby Shower is a celebration where friends and family gather to celebrate the upcoming birth, or the arrival of a new member of the family, in the case of being an adoptive child.

Originally Baby Shower was a meeting where women are close to the expectant mother, gathered to give advice and share experiences.
In our times it is very common that the meetings are made with both the mother and the father, also with family and friends, at the office and even with children.

The purpose of a Baby Shower goes beyond games and gifts, it is an opportunity to support and give advice to parents-to-be.

Traditionally, Baby Shower was a celebration for first-time parents, now celebrating with the second or third child is very common, every baby deserves to have a celebration for his arrival into the world.

After a few years living in Mexico and moving back to my natal country Argentina, an idea was born: To share my Baby Shower's experiences with other people. In Argentina it was not common to have Baby Showers for new babies.

Now Argentina is learning, incorporating and accepting Baby Shower meetings. Not the way is done in other countries but the important thing is Moms, Dads, friends and families are celebrating the arrival of new babies in a different way they used to.

At the beginning, "Sueños Encantados" gave all Baby Shower supplies like:
